Quercus coccinea or more commonly known as a Scarlet Oak, is a native tree to the East coast.
The Scarlet Oak is a large tree best known for its brilliant autumn colors. Scarlet oak is a 75 ft., deciduous tree, that can reach up to 150 ft. Just like it’s name, the Scarlet Oak’s inner bark, leaves, and twigs, all have a scarlet color to them. Scarlet oak acorns are an important food source for numerous wildlife species including squirrels, chipmunks, mice, wild turkeys, white-tailed deer, blue jays, and woodpeckers. They’re also great trees to read under.
